Exit Thread

Join us for the opening of the exhibition Exit Thread on 21 November, 2024, at 9 p.m., SKC Gallery and experience a creative explosion of art

This year’s 11th edition of the International Student Film Festival (STIFF) explores the theme of Escape, which is also the foundation of Exit Thread, the exhibition part of the side program, held at SKC Gallery. The exhibition features works by nine artists who, through various media, especially digital, delve into the theme of escape by examining questions of identity and personal freedom.

Identity, a set of characteristics that define an individual or a group, is eternally subject to change, especially in environments that impose values different from their own. From burnout syndrome to the loss of “self,” the artists, through their works, seek a thread of liberation from societal categorizations, alienation, and the pervasive influence of digital content, looking for the answer to the question – to what degree is a personal identity flexible under pressure from outside factors.

While some find their exit threads through self-discovery, asking questions such as “Where do I belong in this world?” and “To what extent are our decisions truly ours?”, others turn to (quiet) rebellion, criticising political and economic conditions, social norms, personal realities, and the enslaving power of the media. By encouraging visitors to reflect on their own realities and identities, the exhibition raises the question: can each of us find our own exit thread?
